Lawrence Silverman

Lawrence Silverman is the Capital District's foremost expert on study skills, as well as a specialist in the causes and treatment of test taking and sports performance anxiety. A school psychologist and internationally certified substance abuse counselor, Lawrence worked for the Shenendehowa School District from 1979 until 2011 and implemented and supervised peer programs that included counseling, mediation, mentoring, and tutoring. He has a bachelor's, masters and CAS degree in psychology from the University at Albany.

Lawrence served as a NYSUT consultant and designed and delivered stress and time management workshops to dozens of upstate school systems. In addition, Lawrence owned and operated a study skills business that served schools in New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts.

Lawrence was board member for CAPTAIN, a non-profit organization in Clifton Park, and is a founding board member of PAHL House, a drug abuse rehab program located in Troy. He co-created CAPTAIN's Teen Talk hotline in 1989 and still serves as program consultant and lead trainer. Lawrence received CAPTAIN's Volunteer of the Year Award in 1984 and 1997 and received a NY State PTA Distinguished Service Award in 2003. In 2006, Lawrence earned Southern Saratoga YMCA's Outstanding Educator Award. Lawrence co-founded the Shenendehowa Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD) club and served as Shenendehowa's Student Senate advisor from 2004-11.

Daniel D'Amboise

Daniel D'Amboise was a math supervisor and teacher at Shenendehowa Central Schools for 35 years, and is presently an adjunct professor at Hudson Valley Community College. Daniel was instrumental in developing the math curriculum for Shenendehowa High School, and chaired the district's Instructional Planning Advisor Council. He has dual masters degrees from the University at Albany in Advanced Classroom Teaching and School District Supervision.

In conjunction with Shenendehowa's Staff Development department, Daniel presented math-specific workshops for middle school and high school instructors and workshops based on Madeline Hunter's Essential Teaching Model. He also assisted the New York State Education Department with developing the new Algebra Two Regents exam and wrote test items for the Algebra Two Regents exam for Riverside Publishing.

Daniel annually speaks at the local Capital District Area Math Conference and presented at the New York State Math Conference in 2000 and 2006. He is a Fulbright Award recipient, enabling him to study mathematics instruction in Japan. He also traveled to Cairo with the People-to-People Foundation to study math education in Egypt. Daniel was awarded a lifetime membership to the Shenendehowa PTSA. He coached wrestling, golf and softball at Shenendehowa. His softball team won the state title in 2003, and he was selected as Suburban Council Softball Coach of the Year in both 2001 and 2006.
